In
the early days, broadcasting was apparently understood as a one-
way communication. The broadcaster on one side and the listener
on the other. In most cases politically oriented programmes were
disseminated into the air and the listener needed a simple receiver
to get the information that was being transmitted.
Nowadays,
this is no longer the case. Broadcasting is a two - way communication.
Thanks to the advancement of technology and also to the degree of
emancipation of societies whereby the views of the listener have
become extremely essential to the broadcaster's very existence.
The
broadcasting history of Ethiopia dates back to 1935 when emperor
Haileselasie received a gift of 1kw short wave transmitter during
his visit to Switzerland about two years after Ethiopia was liberated
from the Italian occupation.
The
coverage area and quality of broadcasting in both Radio and Television
has improved to a large extent but still has a long way to go to
satisfy all audience. It follows therefore, that there is a lot
to be done in these fields both in technical planning and extension
of facilities with adequate technical standard utilizing the present
day technology. It is envisaged that many private and government
broadcasters will continue to give special attention to the development
of national and international broadcasting coverage and also to
the expansion of communication networks. It is with this view in
mind that GASSP PVT LTD is established, mainly to provide professional
Services in these fields. |
