The broadcasting history of Ethiopia dates back to 1935 when emperor Haileselasie received a gift of 1kw short wave transmitter during his visit to Switzerland about two years after Ethiopia was liberated from the Italian occupation.

The coverage area and quality of broadcasting in both Radio and Television has improved to a large extent but still has a long way to go to satisfy all audience. It follows therefore, that there is a lot to be done in these fields both in technical planning and extension of facilities with adequate technical standard utilizing the present day technology.
