Engineer
Gessese Abai was born in 1934, in Adwa, Tigraye. He completed his
primary and secondary studies in Queen Sheba Primary and HSI
Secondary School consecutively. After high school he joined Telecommunications
Institute/City & Guilds of London Institute and he got his Certificate
on Radio Communication & Telecommunications, along with a two
years telecommunications practice. Afterwards he received his Bachelor
Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, from the University of
Poona, India.
In 1967, Engineer Gessese started working for the Ethiopian Telecommunications
as Operations and Maintenance Engineer. Since he performed well
on his duty for , he was promoted as Chief of Communications &
Transmitters Section. His triumph in his vocation didn’t stop
there, yet again in 1973, he was made Manager of Broadcast Branch
of Ethiopian Telecommunications. During September 1977 he was awarded
for his proficiency and keenness, a medal and a certificate for
dedicated service in the Telecommunication Authority of Ethiopia.
Beginning from September 1977, he started working at Ministry of
Information as Chief Engineer for Ethiopian Television. Engineer
Gessese was also a project co-coordinator for Radio FANA during
September 1992 – August 1993 and he contributed a great deal
with his endless hard slog.
Due to his efficiency, devotion and uphill struggle, he has participated
in different Seminars and Conferences as head delegate and, participant
and not only that but he had carried out different studies also:-
